Literacy Coaching Program
Literacy Knowledge Coach:
The International Literacy Association defines a literacy coach as a reading specialist who focuses on the professional development of teachers by providing the support needed to implement best practices in literacy instruction. The literacy coach is responsible for leading the school’s literacy program, supervising the professional growth of language teachers, and overseeing the implementation of the literacy program.

Roles of the Literacy Knowledge Coach:
- Teacher: Works directly with teachers to strengthen their instructional skills.
- Interpreter of Data: Ensures that student achievement and related decisions are guided by facts, scientific evidence, numbers, rates, and observations.
- Learning Facilitator: Designs collaborative, standards-based professional learning.
- Provider of Classroom Support: Enhances the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
- Learning Specialist: Assists in aligning the curriculum and ensuring that all students receive the necessary services based on their varied needs.
- Curriculum Specialist: Ensures the proper implementation of the approved curriculum.
- School Leader: Works with the school administration to plan, implement, and evaluate school reform and improvement initiatives.
- Change Agent: Creates productive imbalance and challenges the status quo to drive improvement.
